Requirements

To successfully graduate with NC State University Honors Program recognition, students must complete the following:

Admitted to the UHP Fall 2022 or later:

  • Pass two (2) semesters of Honors Forum within their first two-three years in the program
  • Pass six (6) credit hours of HON seminars/First Year Inquiry (FYI) courses within their first two-three years in the program
  • Pass six (6) additional credit hours of approved coursework with a grade of B- or better from the following: Additional HON seminars, Honors sections, Honors Contracts, study abroad (up to 3 hours*), graduate level courses, independent study courses, independent research courses, or additional courses approved by a student’s UHP advisor
  • Complete three (3) high impact experiences by the time they graduate
  • Create and publish a culminating portfolio and reflection
  • Maintain a cumulative 3.25** GPA or higher

*Up to 6 credit hours of approved advanced coursework may be earned for study abroad if a student completes the optional HON seminar offered by one of the UHP’s summer study abroad programs

**UHP students must establish a cumulative 3.25 GPA or higher by the end of their first year at NC State. Students who do not achieve the required GPA by the end of their first year will remain in the program for an additional academic year as they recover academically. Students who have not achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 by the end of their second year at NC State will no longer be able to participate in the program. Students may appeal this decision by scheduling a meeting with the UHP Director.

Admitted to the University Honors Program prior to Fall 2022:

  • Students completing the old University Honors Program should reference the UHP Moodle Project space for their requirements

Admitted to the University Scholars Program prior to Fall 2022:

  • Students completing the old University Scholars Program should reference the UHP Moodle Project space for their requirements
