Honors Portfolio

The final culminating requirement to complete the University Honors Program.

A senior in the University Honors Program (UHP) stands before a projector screen, speaking with UHP Senior Portfolio Showcase event attendees about his undergraduate experiences, growth, and plans for the future.

The Honors Portfolio, or senior portfolio project, is a living archive of all that a student has accomplished and achieved during their undergraduate experience at NC State and during their time in the University Honors Program.

Senior portfolio is used as a space for students to illustrate what they have learned over time, reflect on their growth and the benefits of engagement, and set new goals for their futures post-graduation. Portfolio can be used as a storytelling tool or additional application material during graduate school and professional interviews as a way to showcase a student’s strengths, relevant experiences, and what they will bring to their next opportunity.

Required Components

  • Reflection Essay
  • Public Presentation

Current UHP students can find all of the necessary project requirements, resources, examples and tips/suggestions in the UHP Moodle Project site.

A voluntary 1 credit hour HON Seminar (“Senior Portfolio”) is available to seniors during their final semester to hold space in their academic schedules for dedicated time to work on this project at least once per week for the 8 weeks leading up to the portfolio’s mid-semester due date, as well as to provide guidance, basic web-development training, and peer-review and connection opportunities.

UHP Assistant Director Meghan Teten explains what seniors can expect from their portfolio showcase experience and why the required component is so critical to the senior experience and the Honors community.
